We are now recruiting for the position of Information Support Worker to help us further develop the BME Sitting service.
In partnership with the 11 organisational members of the Derbyshire Black and Minority Ethnic (BME) Forum, Links CVS has secured 3 years funding (March 2023 - February 2026) from the National Lottery Community Fund to develop a culturally appropriate BME Sitting and Respite Service.
The primary beneficiaries are carers from the diverse BME communities and their cared for who are vulnerable individuals living with chronic illnesses and/or disabilities. They tend to experience social isolation, poor quality of physical health and mental well-being due to not knowing how the "system" works (often due to language and cultural barriers), not knowing how to apply for welfare support, being socially isolated, as well as being victims of racial injustice and discrimination including race and religion hate crime. The Project aims to make a difference through actively engaging with the BME carers and their respective community associations to tackle the social and health inequalities involved.
Post: Information Support Worker
Pay scale: £23,000 Pro Rata (FTE)
Hours of work: 21 hours per week
Location of work: Chesterfield (Based at Links CVS office, Market Hall)
Accountable to: Partnership Engagement Manager
Length of employment: This post is funded until February 2026
The post holder will provide information and liaison support for BME groups that enables them to actively engage with members of their respective communities. The role involves: supporting BME groups with the latest updates on the welfare benefits and support provisions that are available to carers; enabling BME groups to disseminate the information that is culturally and linguistically sensitive to members of their communities; enhancing the awareness and skills of BME groups through developing a co-design and trust building approach.
